At the height of the Balkan conflict in the 90s, film maker Doug Aubrey went to film a war with his camcorder. A road movie following and documenting the shock-waves of war across Europe. [synopsis from Autonomi website at http://www.autonomi.tv/, last accessed 8/1/2009]
With a distinctive slacker-style narrative, Victim of Geography is a camcorder generation feature that crosses the time and territory of pre-millenium Europe in search of moments that matter, highlights and low life. Based on a journey from the centre of a vortex (Sarajevo) to the edge of an abyss (Cape Wrath at Scotland's most Northerly tip), Victim of Geography sets out to tell a story of life in and in between wartimes.
Visually rich and multi-textured, Victim of Geography is a stunning soul-dive and electronic postcard from the edge, that crosses the political geography, time and territory of Europe, in the company of the sad, mad, lost, rebellious and dangerous to know. With an original musical score underpinning a mix of hard-hitting subject matter, human story telling, heretical thinking and shot-from-the-hip wide-screen images, Victim of Geography is not to be missed cult viewing for a pre-millenium/techno-tuned in and turned on audience.
