Description: "Promise Land is the funny and unflinching animated story of a fictional journalist’s self serving and helter-skelter attempt to cover the Arab-Israeli conflict by pursuing youthful extremists of every stripe.

Promise Land is shot from a journalist’s viewpoint. It features every reporter’s dream, intimate access to extreme events. The journalist follows six young men representing all sides, provoking them to express their ideas and beliefs and prejudices. All the characters celebrate their twentieth birthday at the time of their interview, and are separated merely by circumstance; they are young, passionate, extreme and see the world in ‘black and white’.

Bernard Shaw explained that he used humour as an anaesthetic when delivering a harsh social message. ‘Promise Land’, written and directed by former Israeli conscript Gili Dolev, but produced in Scotland, uses humour to look at the politically and emotionally charged ‘Israeli -Arab’ conflict, presenting both sides in a bitterly realistic light. The film features, amongst others, the voice of Iranian stand up comedian Omid Djalili and utilises innovative 2d and 3d animation techniques to pull together musical, drama and documentary references. Dolev and Last subsequently formed an animation company." Information from production company website at http://www.selloutpictures.com [last accessed 26/4/2010]
