NIAGARA FALLS. The Niagara river takes its source from Lake Erie and falls into Lake Ontario. Gvs river. 23 miles beyond Lake Erie, the river descends rapidly, thus forming the celebrated Falls. Gvs same. These Falls separate the United States from Canada. Gvs Falls. The American Fall measure164 Feet in height and 1000 Feet in width. Gvs Falls. The Canadian Fall (the Horse Shoe Fall) is 150 Feet high and2751 Feet in circumference. Gvs Falls. THE ELEPHANT'S BATH. The sacred elephants of India are the object of a veritable religion. Every morning they are taken to bathe.
Men on elephants backs guiding them into river. These giants of the jungle are acquainted with the laws of hygiene. Elephant throwing water over itself, then rolling in water. AN ALPINE GLACIER. La Mer de Glace (The Sea of Ice). The snow that falls on high mountains gets transformed into granular layer (névé or firn), next into bubbly ice, and lastly into compact or solid ice. Compact ice slides slowly down depressions, flowing like a frozen river : this is a GLACIER. The MER DE GLACE comes down from the mass of mountains about the MONT BLANC summit.
