Date: 1964, October 20

Director: [filmed by David Crichton, Snr.]

Description: The Beatles in concert at the Caird Hall, Dundee in 1964. Brief shots of the support acts, including Sounds Incorporated, precede the MC coming onto the stage and introducing the Fab Four (who we then witness in concert, as seen from various vantage points).

The silent film was found by staff at the local studies department of Dundee Central Library and is believed to have been shot by a former librarian on a 16mm Bolex cine camera, supplied by the library.

Filmed by David Crichton, who retired in 1978 as Depute City Librarian after 48 years service. He took many films of events in Dundee and his son (also called David) used to assist by carrying equipment and also editing the film for him. Other examples include the opening of the Tay Bridge, the movement of the Unicorn, and visits by Royalty. David Crichton died in 1980. [Information supplied January 2008]
