Title: PETRUSHKA / UNIDENTIFIED REHEARSAL

Reference number: 11250

Date: 1989

Sound: sound

Colour: col

Fiction: fiction

Running time: 41.33 mins

Description: Performance of Petrushka by Scottish Ballet at the Theatre Royal in 1989. Petrushka is about three puppets brought to life at a Shrovetide fair by a magician and tells the tale of their loves and jealousies.

Following this recording there is unidentified rehearsal footage shot in a dance studio at 261 West Princes Street, Glasgow.

Oleg Vinogradov – artistic Director of Leningrad’s Kirov Ballet – created this new Petrushka, especially for The Scottish Ballet. This was Vinogradov’s only major work with a Western Company and it began a close relationship between the Kirov and The Scottish Ballet. (Petrushka leaflet, Scottish Theatre Archive, STA SB 14/5a)

Please note this is a copy of the raw capture of the original analogue video for preservation and as such may display defects such as dropout, washed out colour and sound fluctuation.
