Performance of Petrushka by Scottish Ballet at the Theatre Royal in 1989. Petrushka is about three puppets brought to life at a Shrovetide fair by a magician and tells the tale of their loves and jealousies.

Oleg Vinogradov – artistic Director of Leningrad’s Kirov Ballet – created this new Petrushka, especially for The Scottish Ballet. This was Vinogradov’s only major work with a Western Company and it began a close relationship between the Kirov and The Scottish Ballet. (Petrushka leaflet, Scottish Theatre Archive, STA SB 14/5a)
