Tarlair Pool is in Macduff, a town on the Moray Firth in Aberdeenshire. The pool at Tarlair was opened in 1931. It was one of 169 open air pools, or lidos, built by local councils across the UK in the inter-war period, catering to the new taste for fresh air, swimming and sunbathing. Tarlair featured two sea water pools, one for boating and one for swimming, alongside an Art Deco style pavilion and changing huts. From the 1960s, the growth of cheaper foreign holidays combined with a move by councils to provide heated, indoor pools, led to the decline of lidos. Tarlair closed in 1996. Currently, the pool is regularly used by the Macduff Model Boat Club. The structure was listed as Grade A by Historic Scotland in 2007.
