Description: A cruise taken by the film-maker to the island of St. Kilda on the "Dunara Castle", sailing from Glasgow.

The empty sheds shown at Leverburgh had been built originally by Lord Leverburgh as a canning factory for fish to be sold in his company Macfisheries. At that time, there were only two inhabitants on St. Kilda, Alastair Gillies and Neil Ferguson, both St. Kildans, who lived on the island for the summer to look after the island (they also ran the post office) which was then owned by the Earl of Dumfries. As there was no sailing on a Sunday, the "Dunara Castle" sat alongside the pier at Lochboisdale on South Uist for the whole day.

Part of a collection of 9.5mm films by James Marshall of the Glasgow family- owned firm " Marshall's Semolina" founded by the film-maker's grandfather. See biography of founder of firm taken from DICTIONARY OF SCOTTISH BUSINESS, Vol. II.
