The film, dating back to the 1950s, possibly a little earlier, was produced by donor’s grandfather - David S Stratton, who was the Estate Factor for Lord Howard De Walden's estate in Ayrshire, including Kilmarnock Castle through until the early 1960s when he retired. He was a keen amateur cinematographer. A portrait of David S. Stratton and his wife, both by Andrew Law, hangs (or used to) in Kilmarnock Museum.
