‘The Clyde made Glasgow and Glasgow made the Clyde’ - This well-known phrase usually refers to shipbuilding industry along the River Clyde. There are, however, other industrial heritages along the Clyde, such as New Lanark.

Down from New Lanark and Blantyre Cotton Mills in the upstream, in the latter of which David Livingstone grew up, towards the Ocean Terminal at Greenock in the downstream, this documentary traces the history of Glasgow along the Clyde from the late 18th century to the present, with John Fyfe Anderson, a Blue Badge Guide, as the navigator. He is joined by James Wilson of the David Livingstone Centre.
