A recording of Ashley Page's The Nutcracker, performed by Scottish Ballet at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in 2003. This recording features close up shots of the dancers.
After a sumptuous Christmas Party, little Clara falls asleep and dreams that she helps the Nutcracker Prince to defeat an army of giant mice. She is rewarded by a visit to the Land of Snow and the Realm of the Sugar-Plum Fairy. (Scottish Theatre Archive reference: STA SB 12/25a) Set against the backdrop of 1920s Germany, Page returns to the ballet's narrative source, E T A Hoffmann's Der Nussknacker und der Mausekonig.
