The Two Pigeons is a ballet in two acts choreographed by Frederick Ashton, and is based on a fable by Jean de La Fontaine. This production was produced substantially in its original form. (See http://www.frederickashton.org.uk/pigeons.html). It was first performed by Scottish Ballet at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow on 16 April 2002.

Set in nineteenth century Paris, this charming classical ballet tells the story of two young lovers. As the story unfolds, two pigeons watch as a Young Man is becoming irritated with his girlfriend's playful attempts to distract him, as he tries to paint her portrait. When a group of gypsies enter the studio, the Young Man is immediately attracted to one of the girls. His jealous girlfriend drives the gypsies away, but the Young Man follows them. One of the pigeons flies away. The Young Man arrives at the gypsy camp and joins in their dances while flirting with the Gypsy Girl. Her lover, the Gypsy Leader, is far from impressed. Encouraged by the Gypsy Girl, the two men fight and the Gypsy Leader wins. Ridiculed and thrown out of the camp, the Young Man returns home, led by one of the pigeons. Back at his studio, he has an emotional reconciliation with his girlfriend and the two pigeons are finally reunited.
