Crier makes his way along (1.39) he makes announcement standing on steps with other dignitaries (1.50) toasts are made on horseback, before commencing the Riding of the Marches. One of the men is the Cornet (2.24) the horses and riders leave the town centre (2.36) Cornet presents a floral wreath at war memorial, shot of memorial statue (3.00) the riders leave the town out, passing through wooden 'gate' made out of wood; shot of them returning (3.34) man takes key from cushion and opens Kirkgate Port and ceremony commences to allow the riders through the gates of the town; crowds wave them on (4.08) monument in honour of Robert the Bruce (who captured the Castle of Dumfries and started the war of independence); l/s of the Riders coming on field, flag is raised and bugler sounds the salute (4.43) gvs crowded streets, Dumfries. Procession of children and plenty gvs faces in the crowd (5.52) riders come into the town square at speed; installation of Cornet and the investiture of the Queen of the South at the Midsteeple. Shots of crowds (7.03) shot of Lyceum Cinema float, followed by procession of floats through the town. Various streets are recorded, as well as tracking shots of people spectating on pavements as the floats pass by (8.16) children's fancy dress parade and gvs floats (9.28)
